An encounter with Anna Serner, CEO of the Swedish Film Institute from 2011 to 2021 and a changemaker whose advocacy for equality and diversity has left a lasting mark on the film industry and cultural creation worldwide. Presented by ADA - Assembly for Diversity in the Arts Sector at KOSMOS and in cooperation with SWAN. We look forward to celebrating the 111th International Women’s Day with you! Free admission.
As the CEO of the Swedish Film Institute (2011 - 2021), Anna Serner left a lasting mark on the Swedish and international film industry through her advocacy for gender equality and diversity. Anna Serner was a driving force behind such initiatives as 50/50 by 2020 at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, the 50/50 by 2020 - Global Reach seminar at the 2017 Cannes Film and, with support from the Cannes Film Festival in 2018, the Swedish Film Institute’s Take Two: Next Moves for #MeToo. With a total of five Ministers of Culture from different countries attending, the event signalled a meaningful shift at an international level for equality in the film industry.
What was the impetus for Anna Serner’s initiatives? What is her sense of what they achieved? What priorities need attention today? How did she go about raising public awareness of gender and equity issues in filmmaking? How has she experienced the dismantling of entrenched power structures? As a changemaker, what stands out to her when she looks at the past and future of her own work? And, from a cross-generational perspective, what does Anna Serner want for the film industry, culture, society – and herself?
